'Nondescript' is a CGI-based image film created for the freelance collective, meticulously developed over the course of a year using Unreal Engine 5.2. To achieve a high degree of realism, extensive research was conducted over several weeks, sourcing blueprints and manuals from NASA archives and university servers. Authentic ISS radio communication provided the foundation for the realistic dialogue.
All CGI in 'Nondescript'—including modeling, texturing, and the hand-animated sequences of the astronaut and butterfly - was crafted by a single artist, who also simulated zero-gravity environments. A groundbreaking AI-driven motion capture technology, utilizing analyzed tracking points, enabled near-real-time facial animation of the astronaut.
This project highlights the immense potential for seamless collaboration between CGI, VFX, sound, and post-production artists when they are involved early in the creative process.
